Art Elective Programme
What we do here...
The Art Elective Programme in VS adheres to the school's philosophy for all roundedness in our students. This strives for all roundedness entails that we teach our students to be creative, independent thinkers. Creativity is hard to define but it encompasses the ability to see connections between apparently disparate phenomena and to combine elements in such a way that the end result is more than the sum of its original parts. The Ministry of Education is slowly reconizing the importance of this and in its recent statement on the desired outcomes of education, creativity, innovative thinking, national and cultural appreciation have come to the forefront. It is our intention to make VS AEP the ideal platform for nurturing these goals.
VS AEP is rigorous. Only the best in the school are selected to do it. They go through a course in visual communication which includes Drawing, Painting, Graphic Design, Printmaking, Sculpture, Installation work and Art Theory. With the IT enabled art rooms, art education in VS is experiencing an added dimension.
What results...
It is our desire that the condusive environment will facilitate the training of discerning and creative minds. We are comforted to know that many of our past students do recognise the contributions the programme has made to their thinking and consequently changed the way they view life.
With Singapore recognising the importance of the arts, skills VSAEP students learn will be useful. As job prospects in the Art field become more attractive, the painter, architect, designer may be the man of the next millenium. Not everyone wants to be an artist, but everyone ought to be creative in whatever field they choose to be engaged in.
