In Singapore, we have numerous educational outreach programmes,
which allows us to reach and celebrate to our past. We have came
a long way since Sir Stamford Raffles founded Singapore in 1819,
and these educational outreach programmes extend us to our
rich and long history. For example, we celebrate Total Defence Day
in Singapore every 15th Feburary in commemoration of the landmark
day that Singapore fell to the Japanese during World War II and
to inform the different communities in Singapore to unite
whenever possible and not only when troubles affects us.
The educational programmes teaches the different commmunities in Singapore to unite and live harmonious in this multi-racial society. Singapore is multi-racial society, thus it is important that different communities in Singapore respect one another. Without the respect for different communities in Singapore, racial riots might occur as shown in our past. Educating our younger generation of respecting different communities in Singapore is crucial for Singapore to be united. |
