         Introduction

Singapore has a rich and long history, from the founding of Singapore in 1819 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles to today. The same goes to the streets in Singapore. Some of the streets habours meaning from the past, some are named after people that contributed to the different communities in Singapore, while others are named due to some other reason. This of course means that we can learn about the lives led by the forefathers by understanding the meaning behind each and every road that has a historical value.

In doing in so we are actucally putting ourselves in the shoes of our forefathers, people who made Singapore what it is today. Our current life is the fruits of their labour, their hard work. We educate ourselves the history and cultures that might have been lost along the way. Nevertheless, Singapore's streets holds the different communities in Singapore united as we know that different streets in Singapore has different meaning and by preserving it, we are acutally preserving our past.
