The Singapore Expo was built to handle the many exhibitions which are held yearly in Singapore. Currently, there is another area for exhibitions in the city area, at the Suntec City Convention Centre. However, as the Singapore Expo is located in the Changi, the location is somewhat closer to the population, and being located at the east also means that land here is not as expensive as that in the city area, so that the actual land area here can be bigger, at a total of 60 000 square metres, and this area is presently taken up by six exhibition halls 10 conference halls, and 9 meeting rooms and which are suitable for a myriad of events such as, exhibitions, seminars, conferences, conventions, meetings, banquets and catering and a wide variety of other events such as weddings, for example. The Singapore Expo was opened at a much later date than the others in Singapore, and was officially opened on 4 March 1999, thus the facilities there are of a much higher level in terms of technology.

Facilities of the Singapore Expo
The 6 ground-level exhibition halls are interconnected with retractable walls separating each hall, which can seat 8000. Each column-free, air-conditioned hall can be further divided to host smaller shows. The ceiling height of 10m to 16m allows for easier setups. The floor loading of 30kPA ensures that heavy machinery can be exhibited safely. A service area along the rear of the halls and 24 freight doors (4 per hall) to give organizers direct access. These allow easy move-in operations during shows, offering time and cost savings for organizers. Each exhibition hall has an individual meeting room. Power, water, telecommunications and compressed air connections are available in service trenches in each exhibition hall. An air-conditioned walkway links all 6 exhibition halls, conference halls, meeting rooms, registration foyer and other services within the centre. Outdoor exhibitions are also possible with more than 25,000sqm (270,000sft) of space available.

The staff will also work with the organizers and help in planning, layout and arrangements for your welcome reception, press room, VIP holding area, luncheon, the menu, gala dinner, business services and more. Recently, Singapore Expo has launched a new tiered seating and mobile staging system which offers greater flexibility to customers. Event organizers are now able to configure the seating and staging during events exactly the way they want. The tiered and mobile staging facility is a modular system on wheels which allows full mobility and enables almost any configuration to be created because of raised seating platforms in varying heights and widths. It takes two days for the stage and the tiered seating to be set up. The seating arrangements include lecture hall, theatre, fan-shaped and a class room.

The Singapore Expo also has in-house service partners are able to provide a range of the latest audio visual, lighting, communications and other technical equipment to provide backup equipment and presentation support for any function.High speed Internet access is available throughout Singapore Expo. Exhibitors and visitors can instantly access their email accounts, surf the Internet, log in to corporate Intranet and demonstrate their products and services via the Internet. Speakers can use the latest audiovisual equipment to enhance their presentations and keynote addresses. Web casting and videoconferencing can also be done in the Singapore Expo.

Preparations for the Future
Singapore , being a small island, it cannot depend on a single source like agriculture to obtain revenue to support the country. Thus, it is always finding ways to obtain revenue for the country. Having such an advanced and well-equipped exhibition centre, Singapore can become a hub for foreign companies to hold their exhibitions, conferences, meetings and other important or special events. This will allow the Singapore Expo to generate revenue for the country and ultimately cause growth for Singapore’s economy. The exhibitions, conferences and the meeting held here will also bring about an exchange of technology, culture and information. This will be beneficial for our development to become an technologically-advanced but culturally-inclined country
