The National Archives of Singapore or NAS, was set up to collect and manage the historical records of Singapore, both private and public since 1968. The data is stored in a range of different formats, ranging from text, photograph, film, video and audio tape. Currently, the NAS is house at the former Anglo-Chinese Primary School, after having moved from Old Hill Street Police Station and previously at the National Library.
| The NAS not only does the collection and housing of the materials, since it also promotes what it has through exhibitions to the public, ensuring that the people of Singapore do not lose their roots even as Singapore develops. To increase its outreach, there are travelling exhibitions, annual open houses, workshops and attachments for students, so as to share its wealth of knowledge with the rest of Singapore. Rather than just targeting the main population, student internship and attachments are offered to certain students which gives them the opportunity to try out observation, documentation, automation and research, and under the guidance of professionals, they would be able to have a headstart in their career should they go into this field in the future. |

The future can only be prepared for the by looking at the problems of the past, therefore having an archive is especially important, as this allows us to have a look at any previous mistakes and learn from it. Planning for the future has to be based on previous situations, where one can look at what has passed in order to predict what would happen, thus having such an organisation would be very useful to the people of Singapore. |
