Web Syndication

Web syndication is a form of syndication in which a segment of a website is made available for usage by other sites, simply by the authorizing the content. Web syndication provides the user with a summary of the website's recently added content, such as the latest announcements.

Web syndication started off with the distribution of content from news sites and blog sites, but is increasingly used to syndicate other types of information, such as the latest blog postings or product promotions.

Web syndication formats are most commonly transported via XML, although HTML and JavaScript are possible media.

Let’s look at RSS.

RSS

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a group of web feed formats utilized to publish frequent updated online content, such as podcasts.

Users of RSS content use software programs called "feed readers" or "feed aggregators".

Feed aggregators or feed readers make a collection of web feeds that is accessible in one spot. By providing the program the link to the feed, the user will be able to subscribe to a feed.

The program will then check the user's subscribed feeds for any content that he/she has missed. If there are, it will download the content and present it to the user.
